In the summer of 2017, the community of Bozeman, Montana, was shaken by the tragic death of Danielle Heninger, a 31-year-old Caucasian woman. On the night of July 29th, authorities were called to her home following reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered a devastating scene. Danielle and her husband, 40-year-old Zach Heninger, both had gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, and both were transported to a nearby hospital, but their efforts
were in vain. The investigation that followed, conducted by the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation, the Gallatin County Sheriff's Department, and the Park County Coroner, concluded that Zach Heninger, a 12-year veteran of the Bozeman Police Department, had fatally shot his wife before taking his own life. At the time of the incident, Zach Heninger was off duty.
The couple's three children were in the residence when the tragedy unfolded but were physically unharmed and were subsequently placed in the care of family members. The incident was a profound shock to those who knew the couple, as there had been no prior indications or law enforcement calls for domestic disturbances at their home. The Bozeman Police Chief expressed deep sorrow over the event, highlighting the immense impact on the department and the community.
In the wake of this loss, friends, family, and community members gathered to remember Danielle, who was described as having a vibrant spirit and being a dedicated mother. A memorial service was held in her honor at Lindley Park, and a fund was established to support the future of her three children. The case is considered closed as the suspect in Danielle Heninger's death was also deceased at the scene.
