Rozlyn Paige Bluemel, a 22-year-old White / Caucasian woman from Polson, Montana, was a devoted mother to her young daughter, Arabella. Remembered by her family as an outspoken, strong, and funny free spirit, Rozlyn was described as "a force to be reckoned with." She was the oldest of eight siblings and had a deep love for the outdoors, photography, and animals, especially cats.
On the evening of May 10, 2022, Rozlyn was with friends in a remote tribal wilderness area known as Hell Roaring Canyon, along the east shore of Flathead Lake. The situation turned violent when Tyler Uhrich, the 20-year-old father of her child, arrived unexpectedly. According to witnesses, Uhrich confronted Rozlyn while she was in a friend's pickup truck, pounding on the windows. As the truck tried to pull away, Uhrich jumped into the back, and a gunshot was heard.
Rozlyn got out of the truck, and as her friend drove away for safety, he heard three additional gunshots.
Another friend at the scene saw Rozlyn on the ground before she managed to get up and flee into the dense woods. Uhrich pursued her. A short time later, he emerged from the woods alone and left the area. The witness called 911 at approximately 9:30 p.m. to report a domestic disturbance and gunfire.
When Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found Uhrich’s vehicle with the couple’s 2-year-old child left alone inside in freezing temperatures. Authorities also located two loaded 9mm magazines and a shotgun in the car. An extensive search was launched, and on May 11, search teams discovered Rozlyn’s body in a heavily wooded area. She had been fatally shot. A manhunt for Uhrich ended with his arrest on May 13, 2022, in the nearby Pablo area.
Tyler Uhrich was charged with deliberate homicide and criminal endangerment. He later entered into a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide. In exchange for his plea, the criminal endangerment charge related to leaving his child in the vehicle was dismissed. Tyler Uhrich was subsequently sentenced to 80 years in prison.
