The events that led to her untimely death unfolded at a local establishment, the 4 Aces Bar. Jenny was at the bar with her husband, 47-year-old Kraig Walter Benson. Surveillance footage from that evening captured a sequence of events that would end in tragedy. After being seen sitting with his wife, Kraig Benson went out to his truck, retrieved a handgun, and returned to the bar. He sat back down next to Jenny before shooting her in the head. He then fired multiple shots at the bartender, 43-year-old Logan Gardner, who died at the scene. Kraig Benson then shot his wife a second time as she lay on the floor. After the shooting, he placed the firearm on the bar and fled the scene. Jenny was transported to Mineral County Community Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
A manhunt for Kraig Benson ensued, and he was apprehended by law enforcement a short time later. He was taken into custody without further incident. In the subsequent investigation and trial, it was revealed that Kraig Benson suspected his wife was having an affair with Gardner. He was charged with two counts of deliberate homicide. During his trial, Kraig Benson showed little emotion as the details of his actions were presented, including the distressing surveillance footage. He was found guilty by a jury in October 2024 and was later sentenced to 140 years in prison for the murders of his wife, Jenny Benson, and Logan Gardner.
