Stephan Michael Romanchuk, a 47-year-old man from Hailey, Idaho, was found deceased on May 15, 2014. His death was later determined to be a homicide.

A man named Michael Downs was initially charged with murder and destruction of evidence in connection with Romanchuk's death. However, a mistrial was declared in his first trial. Downs eventually pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter as part of a plea deal, and the other charges against him were dropped.
