In the late hours of November 26, 2022, a party on the 17000 block of North Pegram Way in Nampa, Idaho, turned fatal for 20-year-old Hispanic male, Isaac Bernal. Police were initially called to the location for a disturbance, but shortly before their arrival at around 11:30 p.m., Bernal was shot. Officers who arrived at the scene found Bernal with a gunshot wound and attempted to provide medical aid, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
His death was later ruled a homicide by the Ada County Coroner's Office, with the cause of death being a gunshot wound.
The investigation into the shooting, which police believed to be gang-related, spanned nearly two years before arrests were made. The events leading to the shooting began when Victoriano Hernandez-Olivo, who was at the same party, called his mother, Olivia Hernandez-Olivo, to pick him up. He expressed fear that Bernal and his friends might attack him due to a prior history between them. Olivia Hernandez-Olivo then made the decision to go to the party with her husband, Manuel Santana.
Upon their arrival, Santana, with his face concealed by a mask, exited their vehicle armed with a gun loaded with hollow-point bullets. Without any exchange of words, he fired the weapon, striking and killing Isaac Bernal. In August 2024, authorities announced the first arrests in the case. Olivia Hernandez, 41, was arrested in Potter County, Texas, and extradited to Idaho to face charges of aiding and abetting murder and accessory to felony harboring. Shortly after, 34-year-old Manuel Santana, who was already in custody at the Idaho Department of Correction on unrelated charges, was served with a warrant for first-degree murder in connection to Bernal's death.
The third suspect, 19-year-old Victoriano Vicente Hernandez-Olivo, was taken into custody in Amarillo, Texas, in October 2024. He was charged with accessory to first-degree murder. In June 2025, Olivia Hernandez-Olivo was sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after one year. The cases against Manuel Santana and Victoriano Hernandez-Olivo, who pleaded guilty to felony harboring a felon, are still ongoing. The Nampa Police Chief expressed that he hoped the arrests would help the Bernal family with closure and healing.
