On a summer day in Kooksia, Idaho, the life of 41-year-old Kyle Anderson, a White/Caucasian male, was abruptly ended. On June 9, 2014, while he was occupied with the simple task of attaching license plates to his camper trailer on Toll Road, a fatal encounter unfolded. Anderson was living in the motor home with his girlfriend at a roadside pullout at the time of the incident.
An acquaintance, 48-year-old Jason Godwin, drove up to Anderson's location.
An argument erupted, with Godwin shouting about stolen guns. The verbal confrontation escalated tragically when Godwin shot Anderson in the neck, leading to his death at the scene. In the aftermath, Godwin made an attempt to move Anderson's body to his own vehicle, with the intention of disposing of it in the nearby river.
Law enforcement identified Godwin's vehicle leaving the scene and he was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder. During the investigation, a taped interview revealed Godwin's admission to killing Anderson over a dispute involving a drug transaction and a gun he claimed was stolen.
During the trial, Godwin's defense attorney put forward a claim of self-defense, arguing that Anderson had made a threatening gesture, as if he were reaching for a weapon. However, the jury found Jason Godwin guilty of second-degree murder. He was sentenced to serve 25 years to life in prison for the death of Kyle Anderson.
