On a tragic day in Meridian, Idaho, 33-year-old Caucasian female Emily Elizabeth Works' life was cut short. On December 3, 2023, she was discovered deceased inside a residence on North Cougar Way. Another woman, 41-year-old Sarah Walmsley, was also found dead at the scene. Both women had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head in what was determined to be a double homicide.

The suspect in the killings was identified as 31-year-old Clint Caleb Powers, who was reportedly in a relationship with one of the victims. Following the discovery of the women's bodies, the investigation quickly led authorities to Powers. It is alleged that after the shootings, Powers carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint near Zircon Avenue, a short distance from the home where Works and Walmsley were found.

An Ada County deputy located the stolen vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Powers then reportedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot, firing several shots at the pursuing deputy. A perimeter was established by law enforcement, and a tense search for Powers ensued. The pursuit ended when Powers was found in the 700 block of W. Indian Rocks, where he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An 11-year-old child was present during the incident but was not physically harmed. The Meridian Police Department's investigation concluded that the deaths of Emily Elizabeth Works and Sarah Walmsley were the result of a double homicide followed by the suicide of the suspect.
