On the evening of April 6, 2015, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in the small town of Gorham, New Hampshire, leaving a young White / Caucasian man dead. Michael Welch, a 27-year-old male, was discovered by police on a sidewalk in front of Gorham Common Park, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The fatal incident unfolded at approximately 6:40 p.m., with the sound of the shots reaching officers inside the nearby police station, prompting them to rush to the scene on foot.
Upon
their arrival at Main Street, authorities found Welch grievously wounded. Their attention was quickly drawn to a man seen leaving the area, who was identified as 25-year-old Christopher Drouin, also a resident of Gorham. Drouin was promptly taken into custody in connection with the shooting. The investigation into the events of that evening revealed that another man, 30-year-old John Gillespie, who was with Welch at the time, was also fired upon.
Following the investigation by the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit and the Gorham Police Department, Christopher Drouin was charged with second-degree murder for knowingly causing the death of Michael Welch by shooting him with a handgun. In addition to the murder charge, Drouin also faced a charge of attempted murder for shooting at John Gillespie. The case then proceeded to the legal system for arraignment and further proceedings.
