In the quiet town of Windsor, Vermont, the morning of June 8, 2015, was shattered by a senseless act of violence that claimed the life of 22-year-old Molly Helland, a Caucasian female. Helland was discovered with gunshot wounds outside her parents' residence on South Main Street shortly after 7 a.m. She had recently moved back into her family home after separating from her ex-boyfriend.

The search for Kendall intensified as he was reportedly sighted in Massachusetts. A man fitting his description was seen stealing a license plate in Holyoke. Later, the car with the stolen plate was spotted in Springfield. The manhunt came to a dramatic and tragic end days later in Kansas.
Authorities in Kansas located a vehicle that matched the description of Kendall's car. When they attempted to pull the driver over, a high-speed chase ensued. The pursuit ended when the car crashed. As law enforcement officers approached the vehicle, they found the driver, believed to be Jason Kendall, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy later confirmed the identity of the man as Kendall, bringing a grim conclusion to the investigation into Helland's death.
