Justin Gilliam, a 38-year-old from Springfield, Vermont, was found deceased on June 6, 2022, on Greeley Road near Spencer Brook. Vermont State Police investigated his death as a homicide, determining that he had been shot in the head.

The investigation led to the identification of Paul Lachapelle Jr. as the primary suspect. Lachapelle was arrested in New Hampshire and later extradited to Vermont to face charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
