On March 1, 2023, Colchester Police responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots at a residence. Upon arrival, they discovered 37-year-old Melissa Bergeron and her husband, Michael Bergeron, deceased from gunshot wounds.

The incident was determined to be a murder-suicide. Melissa was the victim of homicide, while Michael's death was ruled a suicide. The couple's young child was present in the home at the time of the incident.
