In the late hours of a Sunday in August 2014, the life of 26-year-old Richard Catalano was tragically cut short in what authorities described as a violent home invasion in North Providence, Rhode Island. The young man, known as "Ricky" to his loved ones, was fatally shot during the incident.
The events unfolded when assailants forced their way into the residence. During the ensuing chaos, not only was Richard Catalano killed, but his mother was also viciously attacked.
She sustained a gunshot wound and had a portion of her finger bitten off by one of the intruders while trying to protect her son.
An investigation into the brutal crime led to the identification of multiple suspects. The man ultimately convicted for the murder of Richard Catalano was Dari Garcia. According to prosecutors, Garcia, along with two accomplices, Victor and Viclei Hernandez, had planned to rob Catalano at his home. While the Hernandez brothers drove away after the initial break-in, Garcia proceeded with the fatal confrontation.
Following a two-week trial in December 2017, a jury found Dari Garcia guilty on all 14 counts, including the murder of Richard Catalano. His co-conspirators, Victor and Viclei Hernandez, had previously pleaded guilty to their roles in the deadly home invasion and murder. After the verdict, Catalano's family expressed their relief and gratitude for the justice served after a long and painful three-year wait.
