The incident, which unfolded outside a convenience store on Humbert Street, also left his 23-year-old son, Hernan Avila III, critically wounded.

His son was also transported to the hospital in critical condition. Born in San Salvador, El Salvador, Hernan was the son of Anna Avila and the late Hernán A. Avila.
