On February 12, 2015, Jon Richter, a 45-year-old resident of Lennox, South Dakota, was fatally shot during a violent incident at his workplace, Sioux Steel Company. The assailant, identified as 52-year-old Jeffrey DeZeeuw from Sioux Falls, entered the facility and targeted Richter, resulting in his death. The attack also left two other employees injured: 46-year-old Kathy Steever, who sustained critical gunshot wounds, and 45-year-old Brian Roesler, who was assaulted.
