On a tragic Thursday afternoon in Lennox, South Dakota, a dispute at a local business escalated into a fatal act of violence that claimed the life of a beloved community member. Jon Richter, a 45-year-old Caucasian male, was shot and killed at his place of employment on February 12, 2015. Richter was a supervisor at Sioux Steel Company's ProTec facility, where the tragic events unfolded.
The morning of the shooting, Jeffrey DeZeeuw, a truck driver for the company, had a heated argument with Richter regarding a delivery assignment. Later that afternoon, DeZeeuw returned to the workplace armed with a handgun. He entered the office area and opened fire, fatally wounding Richter. The violent outburst did not end with Richter's death. A coworker, Kathy Steever, was also shot and critically injured during the attack.
