Samuel Mark Kenser, born on October 14, 1999, in Beaumont, Texas, was the son of Kelly and Christine "Tina" (Nuese) Kenser. During his early childhood, the family relocated to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where Sam began his education at Roncalli Elementary School.
