On September 17, 2015, in Platte, South Dakota, 16-year-old Michael Arend Westerhuis was tragically killed in a murder-suicide orchestrated by his father, Scott Westerhuis. Authorities determined that Scott fatally shot his wife, Nicole, and their four children—Michael, Connor, Jaeci, and Kailey—before setting their home on fire and taking his own life.
