On July 20, 2016, 13-year-old Te'Ca Lynn Clifford was fatally shot while walking with friends in Pine Ridge Village, South Dakota. The assailant, reportedly under the influence of methamphetamine, fired randomly into the group, striking Te'Ca. She had celebrated her 13th birthday just a month earlier, on June 22.
