Gussie Lee Tyus, 72, a Black male from Birmingham, was killed on March 3, 2020, in a shooting that unfolded late that Tuesday night on Birmingham’s east side. Police were alerted around 9:55 p.m. after a ShotSpotter notification reported gunfire near 47th Street North, and when officers arrived they found Tyus lying outside near the address reported in local coverage, wounded by gunfire.
