On March 3, 2020, 72-year-old Gussie Lee Tyus was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. At approximately 9:55 p.m., officers from the South Precinct responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating four rounds fired at 957 47th Street North. Upon arrival, they discovered Tyus unresponsive on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel, along with the Jefferson County Coroner, arrived on the scene and pronounced him deceased.
