On June 19, 1901, Deputy Sheriff Charles Benjamin Holden, White male, age 30, of the Uinta County Sheriff's Office in Evanston, Wyoming, was shot and killed by a man who was wanted for check forgery. Contemporary memorial records list the cause of death as gunfire by handgun and record his end of watch as Wednesday, June 19, 1901.
The assailant was arrested and prosecuted. He was found guilty of second-degree murder in 1901 and sentenced to life imprisonment at the Wyoming State Penitent
