On a cold November night in Mandan, North Dakota, the life of 34-year-old Kevin White, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. On November 26, 2016, what began as a gathering at a warehouse party descended into violence, ending with White being fatally shot.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Mandan Police Department launched an investigation that led them to identify three suspects in connection with the homicide.
Two men, Quentin Felton and Jiqueal Simmons, were subsequently arrested. A third individual, the father of Jiqueal Simmons, was also implicated and charged in the death of Kevin White.
The investigation revealed that a key witness to the events that transpired was White's girlfriend. However, her account of the incident was complicated by the fact that she was intoxicated at the time of the shooting, a detail that emerged during preliminary court hearings. Despite this, her testimony was crucial in identifying the men believed to be involved in the altercation that led to White's death.
Following their arrests, Quentin Felton and Jiqueal Simmons faced legal proceedings for their alleged roles in the shooting. Both men initially entered pleas of not guilty to the charges brought against them. The case proceeded through the court system, built upon the investigation by law enforcement and the testimony of those present at the warehouse party that fateful night.
