Vance Neset, a 43-year-old Caucasian male from Williston, North Dakota, died on July 14, 2017. His death was the result of a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours. Williston police officers responded to a report of a man being shot shortly before 3 a.m. Neset was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The incident took place in the parking lot of a motel in Williston.
Authorities immediately began an investigation into the homicide.
The suspect fled the scene after the shooting, prompting a search by law enforcement. The public was warned that the individual was considered armed and dangerous. Later that same day, before noon, a 27-year-old male suspect was taken into custody by police.
The suspect was identified as Alex Eggleston. In December 2018, Eggleston was convicted of murder for the fatal shooting of Vance Neset. He was also convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. The murder charge carried a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
