On May 12, 2018, 25-year-old Nicole Hali’aaloha Gututala-Hoff was fatally shot in the parking lot of her apartment building in Jamestown, North Dakota. Her ex-husband, 27-year-old Kevin Hoff, admitted to the shooting and subsequently turned himself in to authorities. The incident occurred shortly after Hoff lost an appeal granting Nicole sole custody of their two young children and received a foreclosure notice on his home.
