Malakai “Mo” Maumalanga, a 45-year-old man of Tongan heritage, was killed on the night of March 27, 2021, outside his home in Aiea, Oahu. Honolulu police were dispatched at about 9:45 p.m. after reports of gunfire and found him on the ground with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics responded, but he was pronounced dead at about 10:30 p.m., and an autopsy two days later ruled the death a homicide.
