On November 22, 1888, Deputy Marshal D.J. Kinney of the Gadsden Police Department in Alabama was fatally shot while performing his duties. At the age of 40, with two years of service, he went to a residence to arrest a man. After successfully detaining the individual, another occupant of the house shot and killed Deputy Marshal Kinney.
