In the quiet town of Monroeville, Alabama, a dispute over a property line fence escalated into a tragic event that claimed the life of a lawman. On June 30, 1902, 52-year-old male, Sheriff John Harrington, was shot and killed as he tried to mediate a heated disagreement between a man and a woman. The conflict turned deadly when the woman's grandson attempted to dig a post hole for the fence, prompting the other man involved in the dispute to suddenly draw a pistol and open fire.
