On August 14, 1979, Patrolman Henry Johnny Booth of the Mobile Police Department was fatally shot while attempting to arrest a wanted individual on an outstanding warrant. The incident occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m.
During the arrest attempt, a struggle ensued between Booth and the suspect. In the course of this struggle, the suspect managed to gain control of Booth's gun. The suspect then used the officer's own firearm to shoot him in the head.
