On August 26, 2002, in Luverne, Alabama, 35-year-old Joanne Ball was tragically killed in a mass shooting that claimed the lives of six family members. The victims included Joanne's mother, Mila Ruth Ball, 65; her sons, Jerry Ball, 19, Tony Ball, 17, and John Ball, 14; and her husband, Willie Haslip, 41. The assailant, Westley Devone Harris, was the boyfriend of Joanne's daughter, Janice Ball. Harris was convicted of multiple counts of capital murder for these killings.
