In the quiet town of Grant, Alabama, a routine law enforcement action on August 15, 2003, spiraled into a tragedy that would claim the life of its 49-year-old male Police Chief, Verlon LeMaster, Jr. On that fateful morning, Chief LeMaster was assisting deputies from Marshall and Madison counties in an attempt to serve a juvenile pick-up order and recover a stolen handgun. The officers proceeded to a residence on Cathedral Caverns Highway where they believed the juvenile suspect was located.
