Ashley Black, a 21-year-old African-American woman from Washington, D.C., was shot and killed in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 21, 2007, in front of 901 21st Street NE. Around 3:30 a.m., gunfire broke the quiet of the residential block, and when officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived, they found her critically wounded outside the address. She did not survive the shooting, and her death was immediately classified as a homicide.
