In the quiet community of Coden, Alabama, a routine afternoon took a tragic turn, ending in the death of Robert Perry. On a Tuesday in March 2014, Perry and his stepdaughter had gone to a Walmart in Tillman's Corner with the intention of possibly purchasing a car. It was there that they were allegedly targeted by two women, Kymberli Lindsay and Saraya Atkins.
The two women followed Perry and his stepdaughter from the store back to Coden. At some point, the vehicles became stuck in the mud on Bayou Jonas Drive. It was then that the situation escalated into an attempted robbery. In an effort to protect his stepdaughter, Robert Perry was shot multiple times. He succumbed to his injuries and died.
The Mobile County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident and arrested Kymberli Lindsay and Saraya Atkins in connection with the crime. The charges against both women were subsequently upgraded to capital murder. Authorities at the time believed they had all suspects in custody and called off the search for any other individuals.
