On a summer evening in Spanish Fort, Alabama, a dispute that began in the parking lot of a local bar tragically escalated, ending the life of 52-year-old Jeffrey Carter McMillan on July 20, 2014. The male victim was fatally shot following a drunken confrontation.
The series of events that led to the fatal encounter started when McMillan engaged in a conversation with the wife of Larry Lambert Sheffield. This interaction provoked Sheffield, who at the time was a 68-year-old constable for Mobile County. The argument intensified and concluded with Sheffield shooting McMillan.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Larry Lambert Sheffield was arrested and charged with murder. During the legal proceedings, Sheffield maintained that he had acted in self-defense. However, a jury in Baldwin County found him guilty of murder in December 2017. He was subsequently scheduled for sentencing in February of the following year.
