In Childersburg, Alabama, a birthday celebration turned into a scene of tragedy on September 14, 2016, ending the life of 23-year-old Jackie Dogen, a mother of four. That day, Dogen was at her home, celebrating her daughter's birthday, when her ex-boyfriend and the father of her children, Trequerius Twyman, arrived and created a commotion. The disturbance prompted a call to the police, who responded to the scene.
After the initial intervention by law enforcement, Twyman left the
residence, only to return a short time later armed with a firearm. In a devastating turn of events, he opened fire, fatally wounding Dogen. The violence did not end there, as Twyman also fired at one of the responding officers, grazing him. Another officer at the scene then shot Twyman.
Following the incident, Trequerius Twyman was taken to the hospital for his injuries. Upon his release, he was arrested and faced serious charges for his actions. The Talladega County Sheriff's Office charged the 23-year-old with murder for the death of Jackie Dogen and assault for the injury to the police officer. A judge set his bond at $1 million. The community mourned the loss of the young mother, who was remembered by her cousin as a beautiful person with a warm heart, whose life revolved around her children.
