In the early morning hours of February 2, 2017, a burst of violence shattered the night on Hayes Road in York, Alabama, leaving one man dead and another wounded. The incident, which unfolded near York West End Junior High School, claimed the life of Eric Evans, a 26-year-old male resident of York. Tragically, the shooting occurred on what was reportedly Evans' 26th birthday.
Responding to the scene before 12:30 a.m., law enforcement discovered that Evans had been fatally shot.
Another man, 27-year-old Nico Taylor, was also injured in the shooting. The investigation into the deadly encounter quickly pointed to a suspect.
Within a week of the shooting, Alabama law enforcement officials made an arrest. Javoris Tyshon Jenkins was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Eric Evans and the attempted murder of Nico Taylor. His bond was set at $60,000.
