On July 22, 2018, in the community of Adger, Alabama, 29-year-old Jonathan Carroll was fatally shot. That morning, at approximately 10:30, 36-year-old Scott Allen Pennington contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, reporting that he had shot and killed Carroll during an altercation along an access road to a gas well in the 4100 block of Valley Ford Road. Pennington met deputies at Valley Ford Road and Johns Road, leading them to the location of Carroll's body.
