On February 4, 2011, at approximately 9:23 p.m., Derrick Rawls, aged 20, was shot and killed in the 4500 block of 8th Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C. The shooting occurred on a Friday night, and Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers arrived at the scene shortly after reports of gunshots were made. Rawls was found with fatal gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries on-site.
