In the Petworth neighborhood of Washington, D.C., on the cold evening of Friday, February 4, 2011, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. Twenty-year-old Derrick Rawls, a male resident of Northwest, D.C., was in an alley in the 4500 block of 8th Street, NW, when violence erupted. Around 9:20 p.m., the sound of gunshots echoed through the area, prompting calls to the Metropolitan Police Department.
