In the early hours of a Wednesday morning, the sound of gunshots shattered the quiet of a Washington, D.C. neighborhood. On June 15, 2011, at approximately 1:04 a.m., officers from the Fourth District were dispatched to the 300 block of Delafield Place, NW, following reports of the shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man inside an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as 32-year-old Marcellus J. Darnaby. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and transported him to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, Darnaby succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
At the time of the incident, he was described as having no fixed address.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are heading the investigation into the fatal shooting. The department has asked for the public's assistance in gathering information regarding the incident. As of the available information, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the death of Marcellus Darnaby. The case remains under investigation.
