On a Friday evening in Montgomery, Alabama, the life of 32-year-old Cordelro Wheeler was tragically cut short. On January 15, 2021, police and fire medics responded to a call at approximately 8:50 p.m. in the 3400 block of Norman Bridge Road. Upon arrival, they found Wheeler with a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to a suspect, Ja'Vontay Tolfrey, who was 25 years old at the time. A warrant for capital murder was issued for his arrest in connection with Wheeler's death. Later that month, on January 28, 2021, Tolfrey was taken into custody by the Montgomery Police Department with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
