In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Washington, D.C., a life was tragically cut short. Joseph Denard Southall, a 30-year-old Black male known to his loved ones as 'Reddz,' was found with gunshot wounds on April 29, 2012. The shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Edgewood Street, Northeast. When police officers responded to a call in the area, they discovered Southall suffering from the fatal injuries.
At the time of his death, Southall had no fixed address. He was a father to three daughters, Dejah, Paris, and Spirit, and a son, Jaylon. He was survived by his parents, Felecia Southall and Denard J. Southall, and a sister, Tracy Southall.
His family and friends were left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a devoted father and son.
In the wake of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department sought assistance from the public to gather information about the incident. Detectives from the department were assigned to the case. However, despite the ongoing investigation, information regarding any arrests made or the identification of any suspect or suspects in the killing of Joseph Southall has not been made publicly available. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for his family and the community.
