In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 23, 2012, tragedy struck in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington, D.C., forever altering the lives of the family and friends of Antione Bates. At approximately 1:51 a.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the night in the 500 block of Crittenden Street, NW. Responding to reports of a shooting, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Fourth District arrived to find a young man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
