Timothy Darius Biffle was a 37-year-old Black man known for his kind, easy-going spirit. Described by loved ones as an amazing father and the life of the party, he loved music and his family and friends. He worked as a warehouse supervisor and was remembered by a former teacher as an awesome student.
On the evening of Tuesday, November 23, 2021, his life was cut short.
Just after 9:30 p.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Chalkville Manor Apartments on Chalkville Manor Drive in suburban Birmingham, Alabama, after someone reported hearing gunshots followed by a person screaming. When they arrived, deputies found Timothy Biffle inside one of the apartments suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders rushed Biffle to UAB Hospital for treatment, but his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office began processing the scene. Another man, 40-year-old Marcus Ladrell Jenkins, had remained at the apartment and spoke with detectives. Authorities identified Jenkins as the shooter.
Marcus Ladrell Jenkins was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on a $30,000 bond. As of November 2021, the circumstances that led to the shooting were still under investigation.
