On the evening of January 23, 2022, in the small town of Reform, Alabama, the lives of two men were tragically cut short. Quaylin Curtis Rashod Smith, a 30-year-old Black male from Columbus, Mississippi, was fatally shot. The incident, which also claimed the life of 27-year-old Christopher Hill of Northport, Alabama, is being investigated as a double homicide.
Authorities were called to a residence on Fifth Street Southwest at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Upon their arrival, they discovered the bodies of Smith and Hill in the driveway, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of the incident, it was reported that very few people were in the immediate vicinity.
The investigation into the double homicide was a collaborative effort involving the 24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office, the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, and the Reform Police Department. Despite their efforts, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the killings. The motive behind the shooting and the relationship between the two victims have not been released to the public, leaving many unanswered questions for the families and the community.
Quaylin Smith, who had just turned 30 the day before his death, was a father and an employee at Ashley Furniture. He was remembered for his love of sports, particularly football and basketball, as well as his enjoyment of music and spending time with his family. The community was left shaken by the violent event, an unusual occurrence in the small, rural town. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with information regarding the case to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
