In the quiet neighborhood of North Huntsville, a life was tragically cut short on a Sunday evening. Salvador Carillo Hernandez, a 32-year-old man, was found with a fatal gunshot wound on January 8, 2023. The Huntsville Police Department responded to a call in the 2800 block of Poet Street NW, where they discovered Hernandez's body, marking the city's first homicide of the new year.
The investigation into Hernandez's death quickly led authorities to identify a suspect.
Leah Denise Luster, 35, was named as the person wanted in connection with the shooting. Law enforcement officials believed the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute that escalated with tragic consequences. Luster and Hernandez were reportedly in a relationship and had been seen together earlier on the day of the incident.
Following a search, Leah Denise Luster was located and taken into custody by the Huntsville Police Department. She was subsequently charged with the murder of Salvador Carillo Hernandez. After her arrest, Luster was booked into the Madison County Jail, where she was held on a $60,000 bond. The case is now proceeding through the legal system, with a preliminary hearing having been scheduled to address the charges against her.
