On February 19, 2023, 29-year-old Javonte Crittenden was fatally shot in Montgomery, Alabama. The incident occurred during a double shooting, resulting in Crittenden's death and injuries to another individual. In the aftermath, authorities arrested Cedric Thomas Jr. in connection with the homicide.
