In the city of Montgomery, Alabama, the life of Javonte Crittenden, a 29-year-old Black / African American man, was tragically cut short on Sunday, February 19, 2023. On that day, authorities responded to a shooting and found two individuals with gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Javonte Crittenden succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The second victim, an adult male who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, was treated for his injuries. The incident was quickly classified as a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Montgomery Police Department.
Within a couple of days, the investigation led to the identification of a suspect. Cedric Thomas Jr. was taken into custody by law enforcement. Following his arrest, Thomas was formally charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of Javonte Crittenden. He was subsequently transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
