In the spring of 2023, the life of Virginia Rosemary 'Ginger' McDougal, a 39-year-old Caucasian woman, was tragically cut short in Florence, Alabama. On April 6th, family members made a harrowing discovery when they found McDougal unresponsive inside her residence on Arnold Lane, prompting them to alert the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office.
Upon their arrival, authorities confirmed the death of McDougal and soon located the body of 58-year-old Dwayne Pigg in a shed on the same property. Investigators at the scene uncovered evidence, including a handgun as well as notes and letters, which pointed to a grim conclusion. The investigation determined that the incident was a murder-suicide.
Authorities concluded that Dwayne Pigg, who was considered to be in a common-law marriage with McDougal, had fatally shot her before taking his own life. As the perpetrator was deceased, no arrests were made in connection with McDougal's death. In the wake of this tragedy, the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office extended its support to the victim's family, offering counseling services through a local organization. A memorial visitation for Virginia McDougal was held on April 12, 2023, at Williams Funeral Home in Florence.
