On a Friday evening in the spring of 2015, a young life was tragically cut short on a street in Northwest Washington, D.C. Seventeen-year-old Anthony Davon Benson, a male from nearby Oxon Hill, Maryland, was in the 5700 block of Georgia Avenue NW when gunfire erupted at approximately 7:12 p.m. on May 1st. D.C. police officers who were patrolling the area heard the reports of the shooting and quickly responded to the scene.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Benson suffering from gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Anthony Davon Benson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting death of the teenager.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, authorities had not identified any suspects, and the motive for the shooting was unclear. The case remains listed among the unsolved homicides for that year in the District of Columbia. Authorities have offered a substantial reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Benson's death.
