On May 11, 2024, 18-year-old Michael Shawnte Anderson Jr. was tragically killed during a mass shooting at a May Day celebration in Stockton, Alabama. The event, which had been a longstanding community tradition since 1970, drew approximately 1,000 attendees that evening. The gathering turned violent around 9:30 p.m. when an argument escalated, leading at least one individual to open fire into the crowd. In total, 18 people were shot, with three fatalities, including Anderson.
