In the early morning hours of a summer Saturday in Washington, D.C., the life of a young man was tragically cut short. On August 22, 2015, at approximately 2:56 a.m., gunshots shattered the predawn quiet in the 300 block of 54th Street, Northeast. Responding to a report of a shooting, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at a grim scene. They discovered 26-year-old Kenneth Earl Watson, Jr. suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel were unable to save him, and Mr. Watson, a resident of Northeast, D.C., was pronounced dead at the location. His body was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of his death.
The initial investigation by the Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department classified the case as a homicide.
