On August 12, 2014, in Anchorage, Alaska, 63-year-old Filipino caregiver Eduardo Escalante was fatally shot by Paul Miller, a 51-year-old resident of the assisted living facility where Escalante worked. Escalante and his wife had moved from the Philippines to Anchorage in March 2014, both securing employment at the facility.
