On February 27, 2022, at approximately 1:44 a.m., Anchorage Police responded to reports of gunfire at Al's Alaskan Inn, located at 7830 Old Seward Highway. Upon arrival, officers discovered 30-year-old Kaupoe Magalei Jr. deceased at the scene. Investigations revealed that an altercation had occurred between Magalei and another individual prior to the shooting.
