On May 17, 2015, 23-year-old John D. Kavairlook Jr. was fatally shot outside the Rock N Rodeo bar on the Old Steese Highway in Fairbanks, Alaska. The incident began with an altercation inside the bar between Kavairlook and a group of four men.
